Making a welcome return to UK gardens, ‘The Fairy’ is a variety of Polyantha rose – a small, vigorous rambler, with a low-growing habit which is invaluable as groundcover. They are also perfect for filling your patio pots with colour. For those of you looking for amazing quality and superb value for money, look no further than the ‘Fairy’ Rose.
A great successor to the popular flower carpet roses, what these roses lack in fragrance, they certainly make up for in looks and performance. They are unfaltering when it comes to producing wave after wave of perfectly formed rose flowers in large, closely packed bunches. These contrast magnificently against the glossy green leaves, which really highlight the colours, making the blooms ‘pop’.
Despite their undeniably delicate appearance, ‘The Fairy’ series of polyantha roses are also extremely hardy with good disease resistance. They form neat, compact bushes which makes them ideal for growing in patio pots and at the front of flower borders.
Flowering continuously from June until the first frosts, these pretty, little roses are extremely versatile and very low maintenance, which makes them the perfect addition to your garden where they can be left to get on and do what they do best!
This collection includes a mix of 3 colourways from the Polyantha Roses;
Rosa ‘The Fairy Pink’ is a soft pink with rosettes of gorgeous double blooms.
Rosa ‘The Fairy White’ produces a cascade of delicate white, double blooms with an open centre.
Rosa ‘The Fairy Red’ is a vibrant red with showy, double blooms with a wide-open form that displays beautifully its many layers of petals.
All these roses will form a well branched plant with glossy dark green leaves. They are undemanding and will flower well into Autumn.
Growing to just 40 – 60cm (2 – 3ft) The ‘Fairy’ Roses are supplied as professional quality plants in a 1.5L pot ready to plant now.
Care Information
Roses can be planted at any time of the year, as long as the soil is not frozen, waterlogged or drought dry.
Plant your rose where it will benefit from plenty of sun for at least half of the day, and will be sheltered from the wind.
Roses tolerate wide range of soils but thrive in deep, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, so add plenty of well-rotted manure into the hole if necessary.
Water well every other day – daily if the weather is hot and dry.
Established roses can be watered around once a week through spring and summer – more if the weather is hot.
For best results, feed roses in in late-March/April and again late July.
Provide good air circulation and remove fallen leaves and faded flowers to keep plants in tip-top condition.
In late winter or early spring, prune hard (back to 10 -18 inches) and reduce sideshoots to 2 or 3 buds.
To renovate out of condition plants, or to add renewed vigour, prune one in three stems close to the base.
To prune, you would traditionally cut just above a leaf joint with a sloping cut away from the bud, however, this isn’t necessary, and don’t worry about pruning too much – roses are very resilient and will grow back.
