Care Information
- Best grown in humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in a semi-shaded position, avoiding exposed locations. Will grow well in a sunny border if kept regularly watered to stop it becoming dormant in the summer.
- As the plant dies back the leaves will yellow and the stems wither – at this point you can cut them down to ground level, and you may get a second flush.
- When new growth emerges in spring, add a slow-release fertiliser to the soil to encourage longer blooming, and continue to feed and wather throught the growing season.
- Look out for slugs and snails eating young leaves.
- Propagate by division in autumn.
